Right result for a start....

ENGLAND 1 – NETHERLANDS 1 : After a slow start, which looked like to be going Holland’s way, England produced some good movement, which resulted in chances. My prediction was correct for 86 mins of the game, but sadly it was to be a draw.

TEAM: As whole they worked well! They did at times lose the ball, which at this level is careless. It was easy to see that they were trying to make a mends for past performances and so this is a positive against a good team.

POSITIONS: M Richards, was great, so that gives us options for G Neville. Joe Cole, though was not visible for early part of the game, came into his own after a while and showed his talents and was crucial to the goal. Lampard, was poor again! Johnson was, for most of the time either on his own upfront or back in defence. His talents were wasted, when it is clear to all (including Hansen and Shearer) that his best position is up front but in the middle. Was McLaren trying to prove something, maybe, he could have made a better statement if he had scored more goals, but his pride got the better of him and he stuck to his guns!

The POSITIIVES: All round good display! With Cole and Rooney back to their ways, Gerrard taking more chances, we look good to take on Israel.

The NEGATIVES: The defence for most parts were ok, but failed in the last few mins. In my last blog I made a comment about the defence and it seems that things are changing, but more work need to be done.

The last 10 minutes of the match shows that England's defence is not capable of dealing with crosses, imposing strikers, and long throw ins. Its the same problem as revealed in the England/Sweden World Cup match. When the 6 yard box gets crowded and the defence doesn't push the strikers out of the box then anything can happen. Terry and Ferdinand need to impose themselves around the 6 yard box. If it means getting physical then so be it.

I don't consider that a "right result".

Do England suck so bad, that we're now happy with draws?
